Southwind Farms Hosts IPC Trade Group

On a beautiful day, September, 24, 2015, Southwind Farms hosted an international trade group, led by the Idaho Potato Commission and their Foreign Representatives. Thirteen international export buyers visited the company’s Heyburn, Idaho facility. The participants represented interests from Taiwan, Phillipines, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Singapore, Guatemala, El Salvador, and Puerto Rico.

The guests were given a tour of the plant, followed by a question and answer session. A luncheon was provided on the banks of the scenic Snake River which enjoyed by all.

Southwind Farms was proud to have the opportunity to showcase the company’s operation and demonstrate to the visitors the uniqueness of fingerling potato production. The company hopes to develop relationships with members of the group and create lasting business connections.

Southwind Farms is actively engaged in bringing International business to the company. Southwind’s partners realize the importance of International trade and welcome exporters to contact them and visit when possible. Southwind acknowledges that their product is fairly new to many export markets and the company works diligently to educate, promote, and sell their product worldwide.


Fingerlicious Recipe Contest Winner

Daniel
We’re pleased to announce Daniel Swift as the first ever Fingerlicious fingerling potato contest winner.  Daniel is originally from Boise, Idaho and familiar with cooking and eating potatoes.  He was every excited to submit this recipe for Sriracha Bacon-Wrapped Potato Pops into the Fingerlicious fingerling potato contest.  Daniel takes the sweetness of the fingerling potato, matches it with the smokiness of the bacon and brings in the heat of the sriracha to create a truly unique flavor.  They are finished with the toppings of a traditional baked potato. It’s the perfect bite sized appetizer and a huge hit for everyone.

Fingerling Potato Stuffing in Pork Crown Loin

Construction Nearly Complete

In 2013 we underwent some major facility changes at Southwind Farms. Now nearing completion, we have effectively doubled the size of our building, from 12,000 SF to 23,000 SF. Some of the new features of the roughly $2 million renovation include:

This particular fingerling recipe was created by Executive Sous Chef Josh Loeb, at The Lodge in Pebble Beach, California for our friends over at the Idaho Potato Commission.

This Fingerling Potato salad is a new refreshing take on a time honored staple at every summer activity. Feel free to spice up your potato salad with this homerun of a recipe and see what reactions your friends and family will have.


Southwind is Growing

Recent growth here at Southwind Farms, should make us the nation’s second largest supplier of fingerling potatoes this season. Nonetheless, while Idaho fingerling potatoes have grown in popularity they still are a niche specialty potato and would be impractical to ship through traditional means.

Our approach at Southwind is a unique sales strategy. We very rarely can fill an entire load with just fingerling potatoes. What we have done to resolve shipping issues is partner directly with Wada Farms Marketing Group, Potandon Produce, Wilcox Fresh and Sun-Glo of Idaho, who stick a few pallets of the specialty potatoes in with customers’ Russet shipments.


2012 Caito Foods Seminar, A Winning Season!

Fingerling potato booth - Caito seminar 2012Every year our friends at Caito Foods put on a seminar where they invite their most coveted produce suppliers and also over 500 of their customers for a two day meet and greet. Southwind Farms had the pleasure of being the exclusive Idaho fingerling grower & fingerling shipper in attendance. We were very honored to be selected to attend the seminar and educate Caito’s customers about the feasibility and relative ease of offer fingerling potatoes in a retail setting. We had a great time and looking forward to many lasting relationships that were made.
